Freedom Through Imprisonment

The body rests where it lays,

My soul protests but here it stays

We want movement and action these days

But pausing is necessary for life, like the sun’s rays

I’m not sure what to write about anymore. I had set all of my attention and energy on the fast and that journey, that I have a sense of weightlessness now that it is all over. I am slowly discovering what my offering is and how I can share more of myself with the world. This abundance of free time is daunting. There is so much space to fill the days, that I find myself shying away from the challenge of even thinking about it. What a transition it has been!

This brings to mind the idea of liberty in jail. By restricting ourselves, we find greater avenues of expansion. By sitting in front of the computer and waiting for something to come, I am limiting myself from what else I could be doing. I could be painting, napping, eating, sleeping, mowing the lawn and more, but I am writing. By removing potential in other areas, I focus potential here. By limiting my choices, I increase the ability to create in this area

It is through our ability to stay consistent and to find joy in our own self-imprisonment, that any creation happens at all. At times this may be painful. We love expansion and exploration, limiting ourselves to any one thing seems counter-intuitive. “I am pure God, how can I possibly be a mere writer?” In truth it is the limitation that allows us to explore more of creation, and our path to Godliness, but in context. It is through the many books I have read and essays and poems I have written, that I have an understanding of the world. It is through them that I get to explore the next phases and aspects as they appear.

Each layer opens a door to the next at a point where it makes sense in our exploration. Greater expansion comes to us when we are ready for it. It is the unfolding of each question that leads to the next, becoming more fluid as it does. We can then understand mathematics through our art work. We can understand our art work through our workout routine. We also understand our writing through the workout. Each layer of imposed limitation creates a greater understanding of that topic. We then get to bring that knowledge with us into the next exploration, increasing the knowing of both.

This self-imposed limitation is not really a limitation, but a filter we use so that we can create something meaningful. With our intention and attention focused in one direction, we see what wants to come out of us. We work with our natural inspiration and follow the trail wherever it leads. This process is organic and comes about smoothly as we center ourselves in one area. When we divide our attention in too many places at once, our creations become scattered and lose some of their meaning. While it is important to seed many places in the garden, we can only tend to one plot at one time. This is a life lesson I am still figuring out, as planting seeds is more fun than pulling weeds. BUT to maintain a garden, you do both.

All the Love,
